ICG Admin

The “Legends” Senior Pro-Am golf circuit in Australasia has grown in leaps and bounds over the past five years and now has over 60 tournaments, 7 of these events were played in New Zealand in 2015.

Senior Professionals “Legends” are the household names of golf ,names such as former USPGA Champion Wayne Grady, British Open winner Sir Bob Charles , Australian & NZ Open winners Greg Turner ,Simon Owen, Bob Shearer, Rodger Davis, Mike Harwood and Peter Fowler have all competed at the Lakes Resort tournament over the past 7 years.

The 2015 tournament saw 42 leading professionals from South Africa, Fiji, Australia and New Zealand compete in the two day pro-am tournament . Defending champion Peter Fowler was back along with other stand out players Rodger Davis, Simon Owen, Michael Harwood and last year’s leading money winner on the Australian tour Tim Elliott.

Seven players broke par in the first round with the lead being shared by defending champion Peter Fowler and Richard Backwell from Australia with 3 under par rounds of 68.
It seemed one of the pre- tournament favourites Michael Harwood was out of contention after a first round score of 72.

Day two saw Richard Backwell repeated his first round effort with another 68 to be in the clubhouse with a total of 136 ( 6 under par for the two rounds )
Peter Fowler looked like the winner after he added a 4 under par 67 to be at 7 under par for the tournament.

Word was out that Michael Harwood was running hot and when he posted a course record 63 , there was a tie at the top of the leader board.

A sudden death playoff would be necessary to find the winner, the playoff was all tied up after 6 extra holes and the decision was made to make it a tie and have joint winners of the tournament which carried $20,000 prize money.
